Telling the untold stories of Mosul’s liberation

With embedded journalists, Alhurra-Iraq followed the Mosul liberation operation at the frontlines.  Alhurra-Iraq not only provided accurate and up-to-the-minute information about the battle, but also focused on the human side of the events through profiles of families either fleeing or struggling to survive in the midst of the war.  These stories took viewers into hospitals where civilians were suffering from injuries and also into camps for internally displaced people.  The channel produced daily reports, highlighting stories, untold elsewhere, including revelations about ISIS committing atrocities against minorities in Nineveh; the suffering of families and communities; the aspirations of Iraqis to build a more stable and secure country; and explorations of women’s rights, religious freedom and good governance.  These stories emphasized the Iraqi people’s resilience and determination to counter ISIS’s rhetoric with messages of tolerance, co-existence and peace that once existed in their communities.
